With the technology we have now, communicating using e-mail is not impossible anymore. We can reach our families, friends, classmates, and acquaintances wherever they may be. But when it comes to reaching out with our doctors through the electronic mail technology, it is somewhat impossible.
The Philippines is doing well when it comes to the latest technologies. But to use this communication tool for doctors and patients to be able to talk easier and faster? I don't think so. It's because not all of the doctors have their own Internet connection on their clinics and hospitals and some does not know how to use this tool either. Our hospitals and clinics are not well-equipped with their medical tools, what more with computers and Internet?
In the United States, 31 percent of doctors already uses e-mail to communicate with their patients in the first quarter of 2007. Although there are still arguments about the advantages and disadvantages of e-mailing the patient, we cannot deny that some of the doctors in USA believes that e-mail is a tool that they can use in communicating with their patients. 31 percent is still a good start, isn't it? I only wish Philippine doctors can also do this.
